Yes they are that important! Once you know how to move all your scales up and down the fretboard you also know how to switch keys. And that is what professionals do. They don’t just randomly hit notes on their guitar, except for the Jonas Brothers.

yeh i know all the major and minors, pentatonics, blues scales, modes, and bebop and a few others all over the neck.
but d’you think there’s any point in learning those weird ones like double harmonic, hungarian gypsy and that?
wouldn’t it be better to use my ear to add a flat here and there or put in a # 9 in the scale or whatever for flavour??
after all hendrix only knew pentatonics and major, minors.
