The acoustic guitar is probably the most commonly picked up musical instrument by young people. It is simple and with a few easy guitar lessons, anyone can start playing a simple song. Nowadays, with so many online resources, it is even easier to pick up the guitar with a guitar lesson DVD or online easy guitar lessons.

The beauty of the acoustic guitar is its friendliness. From a completely new musician to the professionals, the guitar still provides varying levels of challenges and with each challenge accomplished – immense satisfaction as well. One of the issues with learning to play the guitar was that more often than not, most people ended up approaching private tutors whose fees were not very affordable. For aspiring guitarists with no close friends who are already playing the guitar, they had no mentors to help them with the learning.

To simplify your process of learning to play the guitar, follow the 5 most important things when it comes to picking up the guitar for the first time. Ensure that you have already mastered the following basics before moving on to any intermediate levels.

1) Learn to play faster with guitar tabs

For beginner guitarists who are starting out, a quick way to start playing the guitar is to skip learning musical notes for now and instead, start with tablature. Tablature basically shows a numeric scale of the strings that tells you which string to pick as well as which fret to press down on. Because this is a more visual representation of the actual guitar, learning to read tabs will hasten your learning process tremendously.

2) Guitar Chords are the building blocks to playing better

A guitar chord is a combination of notes strummed or picked together at the same time. Songs are not purely made up of notes. Chords are usually the next thing after notes that beginner guitarists have to pick up in order to advance into tougher techniques. A lot of easy guitar lessons online will provide good coverage of chords and in order to become a decent guitarist, there are a wide range of chords to master. Make it a point to pick up a new chord daily and incorporate them into your practice.

3) Learn using Guitar Videos

Videos are very, very useful in today’s age. Need to know how a song or a particular riff sounds like? Go to YouTube.com. There are tons of free guides and demonstrations on playing the guitar. If you need to figure out a particular chord positioning or making a hand position, the internet is a great way to access easy guitar lesson videos.

Guitar tablature (shortened to tab) is another way of charting chords or notes to be played on the guitar. It is a little bit more complicated to read compared to the regular guitar chord chart that one may have been used to. The advantage of easy to learn guitar tabs is being able to play the chords with the right timing and strumming. There are letters or characters that show on the tabs beside the fret number that instruct on how to hit the string/s. At the start, you may ignore the letters or characters to get used to the chords initially. In reading guitar tablature, it is best to listen first to the song or music that you want to play on the guitar. You will get the idea better on what needs to be done with a particular note or chord. Easy to learn guitar tablature will do well for those who want to play the guitar almost like how it is played originally. But sometimes there are guitar tablature that miss the correct sequence, note or fret. Again, for this, you will need to listen on the correct sequence of the chords from the song. Then try to play what shows on the guitar tab. Usually, when you play as instructed in the tab, your ears and fingers could almost feel the next note to hit. For regular guitar chords charted for a song, once a couple of chord and frets are wrong, it takes a longer time to try and find the correct notes. On a first person account, I tested a site with a basic instruction for easy to learn guitar tabs. When it came to the song guitar tablature to be tried, I followed the frets and strings to be hit. It did not sound like it all. What I did was to play it on the guitar by “ear” and found out the guitar tablature gave the right strings but some wrong frets and sequence! With this experience not all might be correct for easy to learn guitar tabs. The good thing with guitar tabs it is a lot easier to find or adjust to the correct note or chord. A given advantage for easy to learn guitar tabs is the presentation of striking or hitting strings one at a time in the right sequence. Guitar players who would want to learn playing lead guitar could learn fast with easy to learn guitar tabs. It’s really simple. If the frets show in a single vertical line, then it means all the strings should be strummed all at the same time. If the frets show one at a time on the strings and spread out, then it means each string has to be hit one at a time as shown on the sequence at the tab. As long as you would be able to find well written guitar tabs it should be easy to play songs especially those like “Hotel California” or “Stairway to Heaven” that have nice lead guitar solos. For those not familiar in reading guitar tabs instructions are easy to follow on many guitar tab sites.

The Unique Guitar Tricks Learning Process

The Guitar Tricks Core Learning System is our third-generation guitar lesson system geared toward the first-time student and those returning to guitar after some time. This program of eight full-length courses is divided into two sections, Guitar Fundamentals and Intermediate Style Courses. Each self-paced course runs between one and eight weeks, and combined they take you from pure basics such as learning to identify the B string – to playing all the major full chord shapes music – all the way to playing guitar at an advanced intermediate level in Blues, Country and Rock. Since each guitar style requires different techniques, each Style Course will carefully walk you through the learning process for the techniques applicable to that style. Additionally, we explain how each style requires different gear, different amplifier settings, and different tone. This section is particularly useful with tips many advanced players missed in their early education.

Guitar Fundamentals One is our guide for the Absolute Beginner. Guitar Fundamentals One takes you from the moment you pick up the guitar all the way to the formation of full major chords. No previous knowledge is required or expected. All lessons have been tested to be truly step by step, at the exact level of difficulty required to encourage rapid skill building.

Picking up where Guitar Fundamentals One left off, Guitar Fundamentals Two helps you become a well-rounded beginning guitarist. Guitar Fundamentals Two covers scales, reading music, minor chords, basic song structure, and barre chords. The lessons are more difficult, with the speed slightly increased to build skill. At the completion of this course you will have a strong foundation to pursue any musical style in our thousands of lessons.

So you think you’ve got the blues? Well you have come to the right place! Blues Style Level 1 is designed to cover everything an aspiring bluesman needs to know. In Blues Style Level 2 more advanced techniques are introduced, including new scales and the strategies to use them in the right way. Guitar Tricks Instructors will have you learning the methods of some blues legends, and will conclude with a six-string tour through all the essential blues regions.

For those about to rock, Rock Style Level 1 is the place to start! Guitar Tricks rock experts have broken down everything for you, from rock’s roots in blues music to modern theories and techniques like palm-muting and power chords. After taking you through the popular chords and rhythms, instructors will teach riffing techniques, creating powerful hooks, and finish with some insight on achieving serious rock tone from your gear. If you have what it takes, Rock Style Level 2 will take things a step further with advanced lead, chord and rhythm lessons. After learning lead scales and techniques like hammer-ons, pull-offs, bending and vibrato, you will be ready for the “Better Rock Musicianship” lesson, a must for any serious rock musician.

The teacher may open the lesson by selecting well known and simple songs for students to play. The students must then write down important chord sequences found within the given song. Each student must possess firm knowledge of the name of each chords and how to fret them. Preliminary lessons on how to fret basic chords, will help facilitate learning.

After repeating the exercise with several other chord sequences, the teacher may encourage the students to analyse the data and look for patterns.

After a discussion and some prompting to help students to discover the answer for themselves, the teacher may explain that the key to a chord sequences is the name of the chord that begins the sequence. In each case, six important chords will be found within each key, three of which are major, and the other three minor.

The chords found in each row below will always fit together, regardless of the order, but the opening chord, known as the “tonic” or “keynote chord,” denotes the name of the key. For example, in the first row shown, a chord sequence that begins with A major, may contain any of the chords within the same row in any order: Bm, Cm, D, E Fm and Am itself. Some of these chords need not necessarily be used. The result will be a chord progression that fits together well. The same applies to the chords found in the other major key chords.

Next, a decent online guitar course will explain to you what notes are and how to play them. This is then followed by simple exercises that utilize these notes. This is followed by chords and then by then, you should be able to play a simple song on your guitar. A good lesson will also have tips and tricks on how you can keep proper rhythm when you’re playing the guitar as well as keep its lessons fun and engaging to discourage students from giving up. The last part about having fun is especially important because there is absolutely nothing stopping you from quitting if you’re taking an online course and a good one will drop you reminders to practice or polls to track your progress.

An acoustic guitar is a wooden instrument that’s shaped like the number eight and has a hole at its middle part. Often mistaken as a classical guitar, an acoustic guitar is hollow and is composed of six strings made of steel. These strings, when struck, produce sound.Enough of the slight introduction. That just gave you the idea of what an acoustic guitar looks like and what is its purpose. Enumerated in lessons are steps on how to play an acoustic guitar successfully without the thought of giving up that easily.1. Before starting, be sure you have a guitar. Acoustic guitar to be precise. It doesn’t matter if its old or new for as long as its acoustic.2. Choose the best website that can provide you with all the options on the how and what of handling a guitar. There are tons of websites designed to offer a great amount of resources and knowledge regarding instruments. Catching up those sites can also provide free online lessons. 3. Have an idea on whom to patronize. Some musicians play for the sake of popularity while some play for an artist’s sake. Choose someone who plays for good music. Artists like John Mayer are most popular on this category. Remind yourself that acoustic guitars aren’t exclusively for the mellow ones but for all sort of music. 4. Memorize the physical parts of your guitar. Remember every angle and functions built with it. Understand how they produce such sounds and how it turns out bad. You might think this isn’t vital. But fact is, this is one of the most important things you should remember when handling and playing an acoustic guitar.5. Learn the basic chords first. Aside from that, learn the different ways to play those chords. Example, C has more than 6 different hand positions. This will add more flexibility on your hands when moving from one fret to another.6. Master your chords by not looking at them every once in a while. Practice the muscles of your hand while talking to someone or listening to the radio. The purpose of multitasking is to help you avoid looking more often on your hands while playing. This is a good strategy for easier retention of the different chords and to make your hands familiarize itself with the different frets.7. Practice at least 5 days a week for at least two to three hours. If you’re really itching to be on the pedestal, learn to be patient. Everyone has to start somewhere. And that somewhere is from the very basic. Apart from that, practicing daily entails proper body mechanics. Meaning you have to learn to position your body in a manner that won’t strain your muscles and body parts. 8. Build up those callous on the tip of your fingers. This is painful, very. But as you go on with your lesson you’ll realize that calluses are with good use. Calluses make your fingers numb. Thus, making it easier for you to play. 9. Upon learning the easy part, put extra effort on learning the hard parts of the chords. Barre chords are considered the most difficult part of playing an acoustic guitar. Most beginners skip it. Word of advice, don’t.10. Rest. Don’t exhaust yourself if you can no longer go on. Do it the next day. Remember, learning doesn’t have to be an obligation but a right. It has to be slow but accurate.
